How to root out a bad habit? Instead of mentally trying to restrict it allow it to happen and then be very attentive how it makes you feel, feel into all of its consequences. This is much more sustainable way of dealing with it because eventually you stop want doing it.

Antithesis: In The power of habit Charles Duhigg talks about avoiding using will power, adding friction and substituting bad habits for good ones as the most effective ways to get rid of bad habits.
